Exciting Mile High Vacations

Visit denver

Commonly referred to as “The Mile High City,” Denver, Colorado is located between the Rocky Mountains and the High Plains. Denver’s nickname is derived from the fact that the elevation of the city ranges between 5,130 to 5,690 feet. According to the National Elevation Dataset, the official elevation of Denver is 5,278 feet, which is also the elevation recognized by the National Weather Service.

As of July 1, 2012, the U.S. Census Bureau estimated the population of Denver to be 634,265 people. That makes Denver’s population the third largest in the state. Although there are many reasons to visit Denver, the Rocky Mountains continue to be the biggest attraction for folks planning Denver tours.

Although the population of Denver doesn’t make it a metropolis, there are many popular Denver events that offer excitement on par with the largest cities. For instance, Denver is a city well-known for it’s professional sports teams: The Colorado Rockies, Colorado Avalanche, Denver Nuggets, and, of course, the always exciting Denver Broncos.

While Peyton Manning and the Broncos didn’t fare well in this year’s Super Bowl, next year looks promising. Besides, who needs football, or any ball sport for that matter, when there is world-class skiing available at every turn. Since Denver’s biggest claim to fame is stated clearly in John Denver’s “Rocky Mountain High,” it is obviously going to be a favorite vacation spot for skiers of all skill levels.

However, if you think that people visit Denver only for skiing, just take a look at the most recent Denver information available online. As you will see, the city of Denver is rife with music, theater, museum, art, fine dining, and all of the culture one could hope to experience on their vacations. And as the home of Coors and the New Belgian Brewing Company, Denver also hosts the annual Great American Beer festival every fall.

Whatever you think you already know about Denver, you only have an inkling of the fun and excitement awaiting you in the Mile High City. If you have a passion for culture, sports, the outdoors, and majestic mountain views, perhaps a Denver tour is just the thing for you.
